STANHOPE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

RULES FOR SOCIETY COMPETITIONS
(September 2017 / 2018)


 GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1.1  The entrant accepts the rules and conditions governing as set herein.

1.2  Whilst it is understood that the Society, Competition Secretary and Judges will take all reasonable care of
       submitted work, all entries are submitted at the authors risk.

1.3  Competition entry will only be accepted on or before the closure date for the competition.
       (As 
printed in the syllabus).   
      
1.4  The entrants membership Number and title must be submitted / displayed on all entries.
     

       E.G  Membership No: 01                       Entry title: 'Title of Subject
          (Digital entries should be resized as directed below. (1.6)
                
1.5  All entries shall be the sole work of the author.

1.6  Digital entries must be submitted in JPEG format with a maximum file size of 2mb and with maximum pixel         
       dimensions of 1600 X 1250 pixels. 
        
       N.B. From P.A.G.B. the above sizes are now used for competitions, files that contain excessive amounts of '                         'Metadata' could be too large to upload for online competitions. Images should therefor  be saved as Jpegs                          quality 10 (80% the colour space used should be RGB including Mono/ Black & White.

1.7  Print sizes can be from 29.7 X 21.0cm (A4) size to a maximum 29.7 X 42.0cm (A3) and should be
       submitted
unframed, and mounted on board not exceeding ( 50.8cm X 40.4cm) the board should not                                  exceed 3mm  in thickness.

1.8   Except prints entered in the 'Members Choice' competition. 

        Any member may submit only one  (1) unmounted A4 size print. (OPEN SUBJECT)
        The submitted prints will be judged by the members present and the print the most votes will be declared the                  winner.

    
1.9    Any winning IMAGE cannot be entered into other image competition.
        Any winning PRINT cannot be entered into any other print competition.
        The exceptions being the 'PRINT of the YEAR and IMAGE of the YEAR competitions.
        Other exceptions being (A) Overlapping of competition and entry dates. (B) A.V. competition.


2.0     Entries for the INTERNAL KNOCKOUT TROPHY should be submitted WITHOUT ANY manipulation ,other than   
          minor retouching and cropping BUT any such manipulation must NOT alter truth of the image. 


 P.A.G.B NATURE DEFINATION (February 2003)
           Nature Photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plant in their natural habitat, geology and              the wide diversity of natural phenomena .
          Photographs of animals which are domesticated and photographs of cultivated or hybrid plants are INELIGIBLE
          Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for NATURE subjects, such as BARN OWLS or STORKS adapting to an             environment modified by humans, or natural forces i.e.  Hurricanes or Tidal wave reclaiming it.
           Any manipulation or modification is LIMITED TO minor retouching and must NOT alter the truth of the original              scene, photograph

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR TROPHY


          Is awarded to the member that attains the highest number of points awarded to each winning entry of all                         competitions (1st 12 points; 2nd  8 points; 3rd 4 points; 2 points H. Commended; 1 point awarded to every entry.

          With the exception of the Ladies V Gentlemen Challenge Competition.)

FOUNDER MEMBERS A.V. TROPHY

           Members may submit  on entry, consisting of a selection of images with audio (Music / commentary) the entry                 should last approx. 3mins.
         Entries should be submitted as EXE (Executable File Format (a) Pictures to Exe. (b) Proshow Gold software,
          as this software is now unavailable, or prohibitive in cost members may submit A V's using MP4 video format.
            
          (The above programmes are used because,  the software  embeds a viewer into the image file so that the Judge                 does not need to download multiple viewing software in order to view and judge the entries.)
           The AV's should be no longer than three min's 
in length with music, narration or a combination of both.

J.J. GRAY  (PORTFOLIO) TROPHY

             A Portfolio entry should consist of a panel of FOUR (4) images which must be complementary to each other
             and the subject selected.
            The entry will be Judged as a panel which will be placed 1st; 2nd; 3rd;
             Highly Commended, if the placing is justified.

WEARDALE  (Mono /Black & White Print) TROPHY 

            Members can submit up to three prints mono or black and white.
            (A mono print shall be considered as consisting of shades of the same colour.)

INTERNAL KNOCKOUT TROPHY

            Members can submit up to 3 images, they will be Judged on the night.
            The submitted entries will be Judges in pairs, with one of each pair being selected to go in to the next round,                    until the final round when a 1st; 2nd; and a joint 3rd will be chosen.

            8)  IMAGE of the YEAR TROPHY.
            9)  INTERNAL KNOCKOUT TROPHY
           10) MEMBERS CHOICE (Print competition A4)

            11) PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR.
           12) LADIES V GENTLEMEN


LADIES V GENTLEMEN Members Competition.
          This is a friendly Internal Competition between the male members and the female members of the Society.
         Each Male member must submit 3 Images.
         Each Lady member can submit up to 4 images.
         (This is in order to allow for an even number of entries from each team)
      
         Each image will be judged on the night and awarded points the team (Ladies or Gentlemen) with the most points             will be judged as being the winners of the competition.

NOTES

     Digital Images for use in competitions must be resized as stated (1600 X 1250pixels (as supplied by P.A.G.B.)

     A free to download software to resize images is available which when setup will automatically resize your images.
     the software is called "Fotosizer"
